We are excited to announce that we have two fabulous keynote speakers: Catherine Saxelby, nationally renowned nutritionist (see her Foodwatch website) and Jane Martin, Executive Manager of the Obesity Policy Coalition. Plus a great line up of presenters of concurrent sessions.

HEIA(Q) 2019 Teacher Excellence Awards

Nominations are now open for the HEIA(Q) 2019 Teacher Excellence Awards. Please consider nominating a worthy colleague, or consider nominating yourself if you are the only home economics teacher at your school. To make a nomination, please use the HEIA(Q) Teacher Excellence Nomination Form. Nominations close 1 July 2019.

 

HEIA(Q) 2019 Annual General Meeting – HEIA(Q) has a new President and Executive

The HEIA(Q) 2019 Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday 12 March 2019. At that meeting, Rosie Sciacca was elected President, Nicole Hiskins was elected Secretary and Madeline Fagan was elected Treasurer. Kirsten McCahon was thanked for her dedication in her term as President, as were Aileen Lockhart and Rosie Sciacca in their respective roles as Secretary and Treasurer.

HEIA(Q) 2019 Regional Workshop Program: Registration is now open – and evaluations are outstanding!

This year’s regional workshop program comprises three workshops presented by three inspiring home economics teachers. There will be two workshops in each region. Thus far, eight workshops have been completed and clearly the workshops are wowing delegates. Be sure not to miss out on this outstanding program that is characterised by its relevance and inspiration. The workshops are:

• Textiles and Fashion: Building capacity and creativity in Years 10, 11 and 12, presented by Jill Shehab. This workshop is an extension of the very successful workshop presented by Jill at the HEIA(Q) 2018 conference.
• Delving into Design, presented by Rosemarie Sciacca
• A fresh approach to Design Technologies and Food, presented by Michelle Harris

2020 Conference

Home Economics 2020: Igniting critical agendas

Venue: Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre
Date: Monday 28 September to Wednesday 30 September 2020

This is very exciting for HEIA(Q) members, who will have an opportunity to attend a national conference in our own state. Mark it in your diary and start planning for it now. Apart from three days of conferencing, there will be site visits, tours, a welcome reception, conference dinner and more.

Cost to be advised but there will be special rates for HEIA members

Registration will open in 2020.
