We represent and advocate for home economics professionals in the workplace and in the community. We also develop resources, and provide continuing education and professional development opportunities.

Throughout the year HEIA(Q) makes a number of awards to HEIA(Q) members, and also works with other organisations to present scholarships and prizes to members and their students.

HEIA(Q) 2020 World Home Economics Day celebration

Unfortunately, this event had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. At this event, we would have congratulated the Queensland 2020 King and Amy O’Malley scholars. Members will be advised of an alternative event to congratulate the scholars later in the year.

HEIA(Q) 2020 Annual General Meeting

Due to COVID-19 the HEIA(Q) AGM was postponed to an online meeting on Monday 6 May 2020. At that meeting, all office bearers were re-elected to their positions and Ngaire Mayo was elected as representative to HEIA national Council, after Kirsty Mills stood down from the position.

HEIA(Q)’s exciting new digital newsletter

The HEIA(Q) Committee of Management is proud to launch its new digital newsletter. For 2020, members will receive the first two issues as hard copy, but will also be able to access the newsletters digitally. Click here to access the digital copy of the first issue for 2020. McCormick/HEIA 2020 Recipe Challenge

Due to COVID-19, the HEIA national 2020 conference has been postponed to 27–29 September 2021. It will still be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and it is planned to retain the current academic program, site visits and pre-and post-conference tours, as well as the planned social events—the conference dinner, welcome reception and dine-around.

Members are urged to plan ahead and maybe consider spreading your registration fees and other expenses across both 2020 and 2021.

Full three-day registration includes:

  • attendance at the welcome reception on Sunday 27 September at The (fabulous) Brisbane Powerhouse
  • attendance at all six plenary sessions, six concurrent sessions and one site visit, with 48 concurrent sessions and nine site visits from which to choose
  • tea/coffee on arrival, morning tea and lunch each day 
  • closing drinks.

Daily registration is also available.
